ALEXANDER VASSILENKO
ALEXANDER VASSILENKO was born in 1966 in Sofia. He graduated the “National School of Music Lyubomir Pipkov” as a student of Anna Ilievska and the “National Academy of Music Pancho Vladigerov” studying with Julia and Konstantin Ganevi. He is a faculty member of the Piano Department at the Faculty of Theory, Composition and Conducting, National Academy of Music Pantcho Vladigerov and National School of Music Lyubomir Pipkov – Sofia. In 2012 he obtained a doctoral degree – thesis: “Lyubomir Pipkov’s Late Piano Cycles. Interpretation and Pedagogic Aspects”. He is a laureate of international piano competitions in Usti nad Labem (Czech Republic), Salerno (Italy) and Senigallia (Italy), and has given a number of piano recitals and concert participations in such festivals. Vassilenko also has performed and recorded for the Bulgarian National Television, Bulgarian National Radio and various private media.
Together with Assya Vassilenko he has concertized in Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Germany, France, Hungary, Slovakia, Japan and the USA. They won the first, special “Kodama” prize at the International Piano Duo competition in Tokyo in 1998, and received a prestigious award at the final of the TIM International Competition in Rome in 1999. In 2006 the Balkan Multimedia Centre issued a CD of the piano duo A&A Vassilenko: A Promenade Through the European Classical Music.
