ANGEL POPKONSTANTINOV
Angel Popkonstantinov (1905-1981) is a famous orthodox composer, assistant and professor of church music and church order at the Music Academy. He composed for a mixed choir, and then arranged for the male choir The Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, approved but not yet published by the Holy Synod in Bulgaria. These compositions are still performed in the Patriarchal Cathedral “St. Alexander Nevsky”. A great merit of Maestro Popkonstantinov is that during his 42 years of work in the Patriarchal Cathedral he collected and transcribed many orthodoxal chants and thus created the orthodoxal choir library. For 30 years he teached church music at the Theological Faculty of Sofia University. He worked for a long time with the Patriarch Neofit, who was his assistant conductor in “St. Alexander Nevsky” Cathedral.
